This calculator estimates the total landed cost of importing a vehicle into Trinidad & Tobago based on Legal Notice No. 477 of 2025, effective January 1, 2026.

1. Import Duty
Percentage of CIF value based on engine size and vehicle type:

2. Motor Vehicle Tax (MVT)
Flat rate per cubic centimeter (CC):

🚗 Example: A 1998cc engine pays $15.00 × 1998 = $29,970 TTD in MVT alone!
3. VAT (Value Added Tax)
Applied to the sum of CIF + Duty + MVT:

⚡ Electric Vehicles (EVs)
Special tax treatment for fully electric vehicles:
✅ Tax Exempt: EVs with CIF value ≤ $400,000 TTD pay zero import duty, MVT, and VAT.
⚠️ Luxury EVs: EVs over $400,000 TTD are subject to standard luxury vehicle taxes (estimated 35% duty + VAT).
🔧 Hybrid Vehicles
Hybrids follow the same tax brackets as gasoline vehicles. Some models may qualify for reduced MVT rates depending on specific regulations.
